10 Tips To Prepare For The IGCSE Exam

#1

  • Create a study/revision timetable.
  • Keep it realistic – there is no point in scheduling 20 hours of study a day. You will not achieve it and when you fall behind, you will be disheartened.
  • At the same time remember the amount of ground you have to cover and plan for a tough but realistic schedule.

#2

  • No two students are the same. Understand the revision style that works best for you and stick to it. Some people can study for 4 hours without needing a break. For others, a break every hour keeps them fresh.
  • Find the environment that works for you. It should be a quiet place with minimal disturbance. If soft background music helps your concentration, have it on. Do what works for you.

#3

  • As you prepare, take notes. These notes should cover the key aspects of each subject. Do not try to copy everything – it will take too long and will be difficult to remember.
  • Once you have the notes, create summaries of what you have noted and keep going over them. As you recall the points, you will recall the details associated with them.

#4

  • Keep doing practice papers – the more you practice the less stress at the actual exam.
  • Do not allow your mistakes to depress you. If students knew all the answers, there would be no need for study and preparation.

#5

  • Join an online tutorial institute. This will give you the expert support, guidance and coaching you need to get the grades you want.
  • Online tuition is the best option because working out of your home is less stressful and saves time when compared to traveling to classroom-based tuition.

#6

  • Ensure that you get enough rest and exercise every day. Adequate sleep increases your ability to focus and exercise helps to reduce stress and tension.
  • Be sure to sleep early the night before an examination. When faced with the exam paper, being well-rested gives you the strength to do your best.

#7

  • The day before an exam double-check the venue and the time to be sure of not being confused and going to the wrong place on the wrong time or date. It happens to a lot of students.
  • Keep your pens, pencils, stationery, hall tickets, ID proof, etc. ready in one place so nothing is left behind.

#8

  • Read every question carefully. Just because a question looks like one you have practices does no mean it is exactly the same.
  • Even a one word difference in a question can cause the answer to change.

#9

  • Always keep an eye on the time so you do not run out of it. Skip questions you cannot answer immediately and come back to them after you have answered the rest.
  • When you finish, do not relax. Use any time left in checking your answers so you can spot and correct any mistakes you may have made.

#10

  • When you walk out of the room after an exam, do not keep thinking back to what you have just done and how and why you could have done better. The exam is over and what’s done is done.
  • Turn your attention to the next exam and on doing the best you can once again.
